Why Court Granted Okorocha N500m Bail

The former Governor of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okorocha has been granted bail.

He was admitted to bail by An Abuja Federal High Court on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, in the sum of N500 million with one surety in like sum.

Okorocha was granted bail alongside his co-defendant, Anyim Chinenye.

The ruling was delivered by Justice Inyang Ekwo who noted that bail was a discretionary power of the court.

Part of the conditions was that the lawmaker’s surety must be a landed property owner within the jurisdiction of the court and that the Certificate of Occupancy of the said property must be submitted with the registry of the court for verification.

A serving senator who represents Imo West Senatorial District at the red chamber of the national assembly, Okorocha was arraigned alongside Chinenye, Naphtali International Limited, Perfect Finish Multi Projects Limited, Consolid Projects Consulting Limited, Pramif International Limited, and Legend World Concepts Limited as second to seventh defendants respectively.

Mr. Okorocha is facing trial for allegedly laundering public funds to the tune of N2.9 billion while serving as governor of Imo State.

Okoroha, 59, was in office as governor of Imo State between 2011 and 2019.
