A quarrel is brewing between Governor of Osun State, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola and his predecessor in office Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, information at the disposal of this medium has revealed.
The rift between the duo, according to checks, centres around who gets Osun State ministerial slot.
Fomer governor Aregbesola was days back reported as one of Osun State politicians scheming to corner the slot.
With his handlers flooding the media space with all manner of information that will ultimately swing the cabinet position the way of their principal.
But those in the know maintain Aregbesola has strong opposition in the man who took over from him as governor of Osun State.
Aregbesola, a two term governor, ruled Osun State between 2010 and 2018.
Incumbent state helmsman Oyetola occupied the powerful position of chief of staff to executive governor throughout Aregbesola’s eight years reign.
Available information showed Governor Oyetola to be rooting for one Shittu Amitolu.
Mr Amitolu is said to be a young and vibrant activist from Osogbo, the state capital.
“He’s not new to APC leaders… He was there during the eight years of Aregbesola… But he’s very close Governor Oyetola and he’s aware of his capacity to get things done politically”, a source disclosed.
Those in the know confided in us Oyetola actually moved against his former boss on the ground he won’t spare anything to fortify his political future.
And giving the ministerial slot to an Osogbo man who has influence among his people will ultimately guarantee this, another source maintains.
Osogbo is currently the town with highest voting population in the state.
“The governor has started thinking ahead 2022 gubernatorial election and he wants to ensure people with outstanding clout are in strategic positions”, an insider divulged.
Hence his push for Amitolu, the insider stated.
“You know Osogbo, with two local government area – Osogbo LGA and Olorunda LGA – has largest number of voters… And the governor wants capable hands to hold that area for him. He knows Amitolu has the capacity that can turn things around to his advantage”, the insider who understands Osun State politics concluded.
