UNGA: VP Shettima Secures $5m Agric Grant, $600,000 Relief Fund For Maiduguri Flood Victims

Nigerian Vice President, Kashim Shettima has announced he just secured a $600,000 relief fund for victims of devastating Maiduguri flood.

The Vice President made the disclosure via his Facebook handle few hours ago.

He sealed the deal during a meeting with Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation team on the sidelines of the ongoing 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Dr. Christopher Elias, head, Global Development, led Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation team during the discussion.

Also perfected by the Vice President, who is representing his Principal, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the UNGA 79, was additional $5 million grant “approved for Lagos Business School and partners to develop the agricultural economics of industrial cassava.”

Today, I met with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation led by its head of Global Development Programme, Dr. Christopher Elias, on the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York.

We discussed ways of hastening relief efforts for victims of the devastating floods, as well as for health and agricultural sectors’ reforms. As a result, Nigeria has secured a $600,000 relief fund and commitments from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Specifically, the Foundation pledged the $600,000 for flood relief in Borno State and other health sector initiatives, with an additional $5 million grant approved for Lagos Business School and partners to develop the agricultural economics of industrial cassava.

In my remarks, I reaffirmed the commitment of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to placing health, nutrition, and agricultural development at the forefront of nation’s national agenda.
