FRSC Condemns Assault On Patrol Team In Kwara

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has condemned the assault perpetrated on its patrol team during a patrol operation along Shao junction in Olooru Local Government Area of Kwara State by a traffic offender who in the course of his apprehension stripped naked and climbed on the bonnet of the patrol vehicle thus inciting the public against the team. This was contained in a press statement issued in Abuja on Monday, 21st October, 2024 by the Corps Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide who expressed dismay at the uncivil act by the apprehended motorcycle rider.

According to Ogungbemide, the motorcyclist who was being apprehended for ridding without helmet resisted arrest and created a scene that attracted public attention and drew sympathy to himself by luring some assailants who forcefully removed the impounded motorcycle from the patrol vehicle while also attacking the patrol team, threatening to destroy the patrol vehicle.

“The situation could have degenerated to chaos, but for the quick intervention of the police personnel at the Malete police station who eventually arrested the assailant while the offender escaped with the motorcycle,” Ogungbemide stated.

The Corps Public Education Officer warns against any form of violence targeted at the FRSC patrol teams carrying out their legitimate duties of ensuring safer road for all. He affirmed that Management will follow up on the case to ensure that justice is done and future occurrence is averted.

“While we expect our patrol teams to display the highest level of civility in the discharge of their responsibilities, Management will not condone a situation where traffic offenders in conivance with members of the public subject our teams to public ridicule,’ he added.

The Corps Public Education Officer further assured members of the public that while the FRSC Management is committed to civil approach in its enforcement strategies, it will not tolerate any act of incivility against its patrol teams. He stresses the importance of public collaboration with the Corps in the joint efforts to make our roads safer through strict adherence to traffic rules and regulations.
