Obanikoro Faults Adefuye’s Comment On Obasa’s Removal As Lagos Speaker

Senator Musiliu Olatunde Obanikoro, a former serving Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has described Senator Anthony Adefuye’s statement on the embattled former  Speaker Mr Mudashiru Obasa as reckless and childish.

A former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has faulted his removal by lawmakers.

Obasa, who spoke for the first time on his removal on Saturday, 25 January, 2025, said it was important for lawmakers to follow the constitutional procedure to remove him from office.
He also denied the allegations of corruption levelled against him by the lawmakers.

Obasa was removed by over two-third majority of House members on January 13 following allegations of misconduct and financial misappropriation
Adefuye, a member of the Lagos State Governance Advisory Council (GAC), Anthony Adefuye, expressed support for the embattled Obasa.

Adefuye, on the phone with a journalist said, “What he’s saying is that he was illegally removed and the procedure was faulty and I agree with him.”
Obanikoro a two time Minister, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in an interview that his co-member in the GAC was careless to have made such statement without caution.
“The statement of Sen. Adefuye on the  removal of the former speaker Mudashiru Obasa, is very unfortunate, childish and inconsequential.

“Senator Adefuye’s comment was uncalled for; as leaders, if there are serious issues of this magnitude, rushing to make press statement or personal statement on such issues is unbecoming of a stateman.
“Since GAC as a unit has not made any public pronouncement on the subject matter, it is irresponsible of any member of that privileged body to go public and make comments on an issue that is as sensitive as that,” the Senator said.

Obanikoro, a one time Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana told NAN it was important to respect hierarchy in every situation.

“Moreso our leader, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria waded in on the matter, so I believe nobody should come out individually to express an opinion based on our privileged status,” the former Chairman of Lagos Island said.
