Customs Seeks Stronger Inter-Agency Collaboration In Tackling Border Crimes In Katsina

As part of efforts to combat the escalating wave of cross-border crimes, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has renewed its commitment to enhanced intelligence sharing and strengthened inter-agency collaboration in Katsina State.

The pledge was made on Tuesday, 23 April 2025, during a courtesy visit by the newly deployed Officer in charge of Travel and Alien Control (TAC) Point at the Jibia Border Station, Alhaji Yusuf Zakari, to the Customs Area Controller of Katsina Command, Comptroller Abba-Aji Idriss, at the Customs House in Katsina.

Speaking during the meeting, Comptroller Idriss underscored the urgent need for strengthened synergy among security agencies, particularly in intelligence gathering and dissemination. He described inter-agency cooperation as pivotal to addressing the complex security challenges along Nigeria’s northern frontier.

“We must continue to consolidate our partnership with sister agencies to effectively counter the activities of smugglers and transnational criminal elements who exploit our porous borders,” Idriss stated.

The Customs boss reiterated the NCS’s resolve to sustain collaborative efforts to secure the nation’s territorial integrity, noting that actionable intelligence remains vital in disrupting illicit trade and safeguarding national interests.

Responding, Zakari noted that his visit formed part of a wider familiarization tour and emphasised his agency’s readiness to deepen operational ties with the Customs Service.

He commended the existing working relationship between both agencies and called for continued cooperation to achieve shared national security goals.

“Our success hinges on how well we can coordinate and share intelligence,” Zakari said.
