Illegal Excise Factory Uncovered As Customs Ogun II Command Reports 40% Revenue Growth In Q1

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun II Area Command has reported a remarkable 40% increase in revenue generation for the first quarter of 2025, generating ₦15.19 billion between January and April, 2025.

The Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Bisi Alade, disclosed this during a press briefing held on Friday, 16 May 2025, at the Command’s headquarters in Abeokuta.

The CAC noted that the figure marks a significant rise from the ₦9.16 billion recorded during the same period in 2024. “This achievement is a testament to our officers and men’s diligence, commitment, and professionalism.”

“They have worked tirelessly to ensure we exceed our revenue targets as it also indicates our unwavering commitment to our dear nation’s economic growth and development”, he added.

A breakdown of the revenue shows contributions from excise duties (₦8.33 billion), Free Trade Zone operations (₦7.16 billion), and bonded terminal imports (₦1.49 billion). The Command recorded steady monthly revenues, with ₦4.0 billion collected in January and ₦4.26 billion in April.

In addition to its revenue performance, the Command also uncovered and brought under regulatory control, an unauthorised factory that had been operating outside government excise supervision.

The Customs Area Controller attributed the Command’s success to improved monitoring, enhanced intelligence gathering, stakeholder engagement, and Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.

He expressed optimism that the Command would surpass its current achievements in the months ahead, citing continued cooperation from stakeholders in the Free Trade Zones and bonded terminals within the Command’s jurisdiction.
