The Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde has urged corps members to profoundly contribute their quota to the overall growth and development of Nigeria. Governor Seyi Makinde gave the charge while addressing the 2019 Batch ‘C’ (Stream I) corps members deployed to Oyo state at the swearing-in and official opening ceremony of the 2019 Batch ‘C’ (Stream I) orientation course.
Governor Makinde, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Engineer Rauf Olaniyan, said that the National Youth Service Corps is a beacon of hope and reference point when it comes to productive channelling of youthful intelligence, energy and skills for national development. According to him, “the orientation course which is the first phase and entry point into the service year is primarily aimed at inculcating discipline, hard work and integrity in the Nigerian graduate youth”.He then encouraged the corps members to avail themselves of the opportunities provided by the contents of the orientation course and have the positive and right attitude that will help them surpass the achievements of their predecessors.
Makinde however assured the corps members that his administration will continue to ensure that the conducive and secured environment already established are maintained throughout their stay in Oyo State.
In his welcome address, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Honourable Seun Fakorede, said that the orientation exercise aside being a launching pad for the one-year mandatory national service is also designed to inculcate the ideals of patriotism, service and humility into the vibrant youths. Fakorede, who doubles as the Chairman NYSC Oyo State governing board stated that adequate preparations have been put in place to ensure a hitch-free orientation exercise and assured the corps members a memorable orientation course.
Earlier in her introductory address, the Oyo State NYSC Coordinator, Eniola Ambekemo, emphasized that camp life is strictly regimented. She urged the corps members to be disciplined and abide by all camp rules and regulations. Ambekemo encouraged the corps members to avail themselves the opportunity presented to them by the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme which she said was aimed at empowering corps members.
A total of 2171 corps members comprising 874 males and 1297 female were then administered the oath of allegiance by the Oyo State Chief Judge who was represented by Honourable Justice Moshood Abass.
