Zambian President, Hakainde Hichilema, played host to Mr Tony Elumelu, the Group Chairman of Africa’s Global bank, United Bank for Africa (UBA) on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.

President Hichilema received the Africa’s business leader, who he praised for empowering over 350 young Zambian entrepreneurs through Tony Elumelu Foundation, his philanthropic initiative, at the State House on Independence Avenue in Lusaka, Zambia.

The President, who took to his Facebook handle after their meeting, said Mr Elumelu reassured him of support for the Zambian economy, particularly through investment in the country’s energy sector.

The Facebook post reads….

This afternoon, we were pleased to welcome Mr. Tony Elumelu, Group Chairman of the United Bank for Africa (UBA), to State House.

Mr. Elumelu, who also leads the Tony Elumelu Foundation, reaffirmed his commitment to supporting our government’s efforts to grow the economy, particularly through investment in Zambia’s energy sector.

We acknowledge the energy challenges our country is facing. They are painful, but they are not insurmountable. We have a clear plan to address them by attracting private investment, diversifying our energy mix, and fast-tracking reforms that make it easier for independent producers to participate.

We commend the Tony Elumelu Foundation for empowering over 350 young Zambian entrepreneurs through its Entrepreneurship Programme. Partnerships like these strengthen our shared goal of building a more dynamic and inclusive economy.

Zambia remains open for business, and we encouraged Mr. Elumelu to work with us in showcasing our nation’s vast potential. Let’s keep moving Zambia forward.

Hakainde Hichilema,
President of the Republic of Zambia.
