Gov Aiyedatiwa Inspects Road Projects In State Capital

Residents of some parts of Akure, the Ondo State capital, trooped out in large numbers on Thursday to warmly receive Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa as he inspected three major road projects in the city.

On his way from the flag off of the Akure-Ijare road project, the Governor conducted on site tour of the Irese Flyover,  Akure–Idanre Road dualisation and Ijoka road dualisation projects.

At the site of the Flyover, the Governor was briefed by the Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Engr Ayorinde Abiola, who said the project has entered its final stage and nearing completion.

Assessing the level of work done on the Akure-Idanre Road project at Oke Aro in Akure, where many excited residents hailed him, the Governor commended the pace of work and urged the contractor to keep it up.

Speaking on the Ijoka road project, the Governor assured the residents of its swift completion and highlighted notable progress since his last visit.

Governor Aiyedatiwa noted that the project, initially commenced by the administration of the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, had experienced delays due to issues with the contractor but all now resolved.

Soeaking after the tour, the Governor said: “We have done engagements, and they have moved back on site. This is the second time I am visiting this road, and there is great improvement from what I saw the last time.

“I have walked about two kilometres on foot with the contractors and engineers to assess the quality of work and we have seen that quality work is ongoing, although minor corrections are required before asphalt laying

“Before, people were pleading for completion. Today, they are thanking me for the level of work done. The contractor has promised that asphalt laying will commence next week so that it can be opened to commuters and road users.”

The Governor observed that the road passes through a densely populated area, with many residents commuting to city centre for work and school.

“Now they are happy that they can drive on one side that is almost completed. Very soon, we will come here to commission and open both sides for people to start using it,” the Governor assured.
