FCT Minister Wike Intervenes In Unlawful AEDC Substation Takeover

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has intervened following the unlawful takeover of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company’s (AEDC) C2 Maitama Substation by land grabbers.

The power firm disclosed this development in a management-signed statement released today, July 11, 2026.

“The invasion and encroachment on the C2 Maitama Substation has now been escalated to the highest levels of the Federal Capital Territory Administration,” the AEDC statement read.

According to the firm, Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has been fully briefed on the situation. The Minister has personally stepped in to facilitate an urgent resolution to the crisis, which is responsible for the ongoing power disruption affecting Maitama and its adjoining areas.

While assuring residents of its commitment to restoring electricity to the affected areas, AEDC expressed its appreciation to customers for their patience, understanding, and continued support during the outage.
