Tinubu’s Govt Dismisses Power Tariff Increase, Prioritises Fair Billing
The Federal Government has ruled out any immediate increase in electricity tariffs, declaring that its current priority is ensuring citizens only pay for the energy they actually use.
The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, disclosed this in a communication shared by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity. Tegbe emphasized that the President Bola Tinubu administration is focusing heavily on service delivery and infrastructure rather than raising prices.
“Our priority is service improvement, universal metering, and ensuring Nigerians pay only for the electricity they actually consume,” Tegbe stated.
To protect low-income households, the Minister assured that the government is actively examining additional mechanisms to cushion vulnerable consumers while maintaining the financial health of the energy market.
Tegbe stressed that revitalising the power sector requires strict execution rather than empty rhetoric. He noted that the administration will measure its success strictly by the tangible improvements Nigerians experience in their daily lives.
“Our ambition is clear,” Tegbe concluded. “Reliable electricity that powers our homes. Competitive electricity that powers our industries. Sustainable electricity that attracts investment. Inclusive electricity that reaches every Nigerian.”
