Niger State Launches 2026 Agricultural Support Programme Under NG-CARES
The Niger State government has flagged off the 2026 wet season agricultural inputs and assets distribution to beneficiaries under the NG-CARES 2.0 Result area two programme.
The initiative is aimed at protecting livelihoods, strengthen food production, support vulnerable households and stimulate economic activities across communities in line with the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Under this scheme, 15,922 farmers across Niger State will be supported with 15,800 to receive production inputs, while 122 farmers will receive individual agricultural production assets.
The input includes 2,350 metric tons of fertilizers, 21.61 metric tons of improved seed rice seed, 102.95 metric tons of improved maize seeds, and 15,600 liters each of herbicide and insecticide.
The executive governor of Niger State, farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago who flagged off the distribution in Minna said, the initiative is a great feat for farmers in the State, as it will go a long way in increasing the yield at the end of the wet season.
Represented by his deputy, Comrade Yakubu Garba, the farmer governor said his administration identifies agriculture not only as means of feeding the people, but also as a pathway to wealth creation, employment, and sustainable economic development.
He discloses that his administration has supported the 2026 farming season with agricultural input and machineries across all the 25 local government areas and also participated in the Federal Government Renewed hope Farm Input Support Program where 20,160 farmers benefited across the State.
In addition, the State government has provided 132,000bags of fertilizer at subsidized rates to farmers and 10 tractors each to all the 25 local government areas to boost agric production.
The National project Coordinator, National FADAMA Coordination Office, Dr. Adegoke Austin said the event was a practical demonstration of collective commitment to strengthen the resilience, productivity, and livelihoods of farmers and other vulnerable members of the community and reaffirmed that the FADAMA NG CARES programme is firmly focused on transmitting government interventions into tangible benefits at the grassroots.
In his remarks, the State project Coordinator, FADAMA NG-CARES Delivery Unit, Alhaji Shehu Kudu Mohammed, the NG-CARES 2.0 under Result Area 2 is aimed at enhancing food security and improving livelihoods of the vulnerable households through provision of productive assets and labour intensive agric infrastructure and applauded the support of the farmer governor in achieving set objectives.
He said, beneficiaries in the State were drawn from three agricultural value chains including rice,maize, sorghum, livestock and fisheries adding that the inputs provided to them will continually be monitored to ensure effective utilization.
Commissioner for agriculture, Isah Sidi Rijau while acknowledging the tremendous support of the farmer governor said the intervention would greatly improve food productivity, increase household income, and strengthen food security across the State.
In their separate goodwill messages, the Emir of Minna represented by the Karman Minna, Alhaji Muhammad Kpotu Abdullahi as well as the State Chairman, All Farmers Association of Nigeria, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar Manko represented by the Vice Chairman of the Association Muhammad Saba Usman commended the efforts of FADAMA and the State government for their strides in the agric sector.
