Glade Crescent Foundation Boosts Education In Kosofe With 100 GCE Forms For Indigent Students

The Glade Crescent Foundation for Youth Empowerment, a philanthropic initiative founded by tech expert John Akhigbe, has once again demonstrated its commitment to supporting underprivileged youth in the Kosofe Local Government Area of Lagos State.

The benefactor, Mr. Akhigbe—an MBA holder from the University of Texas, Permian Basin, and a finance graduate from the University of Lagos, who also holds an IT certification and currently works in the tech sector in the United States—spent his childhood in the Ojota community of Kosofe

On Friday, August 21, 2026, the foundation brought hope to 100 students from low-income families by distributing free General Certificate Examination (GCE) forms. The event, which marks the seventh consecutive year of the empowerment program, took place at the Emmanuel Primary School playing ground in Ojota.

The ceremony drew several notable figures from the local government area, including Hon. Ganiyu Okanlawon, the member representing Kosofe Constituency 1 (represented by Mr. Bashir Adeola), and Hon. Ayo Ositelu, the Senior Special Assistant on Sport to the Executive Chairman of Kosofe LGA. Mrs. Salamatu Baiwa, a prominent chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), attended as the special guest of honour.

The impactful event commenced with an opening prayer by Pastor Segun Ayodele, followed by expressions of gratitude from the young beneficiaries who took turns thanking Mr. Akhigbe and his foundation for investing in their future.

A seasoned counsellor, Funke Ogunnaike delivered an inspiring pep talk, urging the beneficiaries to cultivate the right dreams and visions to succeed educationally.

Reflecting on the educational initiative, Akhigbe stated:”It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to this special occasion organized by the Glade Crescent Foundation for Youth Empowerment. For several years, we have supported students with GCE forms because we believe that financial circumstances should never prevent a talented young person from continuing their education. Today is not simply about giving out GCE forms; it is about providing opportunities and hope. It is about telling our young people that their dreams matter and that their community believes in them.”

He further noted that this year’s empowerment initiative is designed to complement the educational advancement efforts of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, particularly through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).

Speaking at the event, Hajia Salamatu Baiwa praised the young philanthropist for creating an initiative to uplift school children through education. She noted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s establishment of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) further inspired his efforts.

“John has been on this journey for over six years, helping young people with GCE forms and other educational needs,” Baiwa said. “However, the establishment of NELFUND encouraged him to do even more. This federal government initiative closes the gap between young people and their educational goals, courtesy of President Tinubu. We thank God for this platform; it is the very first time our country has established a system to remove financial barriers, allowing youth to advance their education,”
