‘Our Vision Has Become a Beacon of Hope’ — Elumelu Celebrates 15 Years of Empowering African Entrepreneurs
Prominent African business leader Tony Onyemaechi Elumelu has unveiled a milestone impact report marking 15 years of the Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF).
Released on September 23, 2026, the rigorously researched and independently verified report highlights the extensive reach of the philanthropic organization, which has served as a major catalyst for African entrepreneurship since its inception.
Reflecting on the findings, Elumelu noted that the foundation’s work proves luck can truly be democratized and delivered generationally to empower future leaders.
Since its launch, the initiative has funded 24,633 entrepreneurs across all 54 African countries, deploying more than $120 million in capital. This intervention has created 1.5 million jobs and generated $4.2 billion in revenue across the continent.
Elumelu, the founder and chairman of Heirs Holdings, recalled the early days of the initiative, which he conceptualized alongside his wife, Dr. Awele Vivien Elumelu.
“Fifteen years ago, my wife and I had a vision, and we laid down a challenge: that a young African with an idea does not need charity, they need capital, and someone willing to believe in them,” Elumelu said. “We believed that Africa could be transformed by entrepreneurship and a generation inspired to take control of their destiny. Today, that challenge has been met.”
While celebrating these achievements, Elumelu emphasized that the mission is far from over.
“As we look forward, the job is not done. We are excited and driven to scale further,” he added. “In a complex world, we are proud our vision has become a beacon of hope and a catalyst for economic transformation.”
