The police in Edo State have taken into custody a suspect in the rape and gruesome murder of Vera Omasuwa.

Vera Omasuwa, 22, was a 100-level microbiology student at the University of Benin, Edo State.

Chidi Nwabuzor, the spokesperson of Edo State Police Command who made the disclosure said the suspect was picked up after the fingerprint on the fire extinguisher allegedly used on the victim was examined.

Detailing how the suspect was arrested on Tuesday June 2, 2020, Mr Nwabuzor said “The area commander in charge of Ikpoba Hill Area Command took it upon himself, mobilized his operatives, and moved to town. Around the place of the incident, the suspect was arrested.”

“The items used in assaulting and wounding her was recovered, a fire extinguisher cylinder,” he said.

Omosuwa was found in the pool of blood at a parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in Ikpoba Hill where she had gone to read on Wednesday.

She was reportedly rushed to nearby health facility where she eventually died on Saturday afternoon.

Interestingly, her death has sparked outrage across Nigeria.
