Former Governor Orji Kalu Wants To Be President Of Nigeria In 2023

Former governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu is interested in vying for the position of president of the federal republic of Nigeria.

The Senate Chief Whip and member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) asserted the position is open to any member of the party.

Orji Kalu gave the hint on Monday, August 31, 2020, during a visit to Minna, the capital of Niger State where he met with two former Nigerian leaders and retired generals, Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalam Abubakar.

Kalu, who is the senator representing the Abia North in the upper chamber of the National Assembly revealed he’s available to run for the nation’s number one seat if given the opportunity.

“I am still in the Senate, and I will seek for re-election into the Senate but if our people want me to serve as President I will not hesitate,” he said.

Mr Kalu was the governor of Abia State between May 1999 and May 2007.

He was convicted alongside Use Udeogu – the director of finance and accounts in his government – and handed  12 year imprisonment in December 2019 over allegation of mismanaging public funds while serving as the governor of the South-East state.

But the wealthy senator was recent released and return to take his seat in the senate following the nullification of his conviction by the Supreme Court.
