IGP Egbetokun Presents N2bn Cheques To Families Of Fallen Officers

In continuation of efforts to support families of fallen heroes, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, today, 24th September 2025, presented cheques worth a total of Two Billion, One Hundred and Seventy-One Million, One Hundred and Twenty-Four Thousand, Forty-One Naira, Eighty-Seven Kobo (₦2,171,124,041.87k) to 1,574 beneficiaries and next-of-kin of deceased police officers under the Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare Schemes. The ceremony was held at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, with the Force Management Team, insurance industry stakeholders, and beneficiaries in attendance.

The benefits presented, cover policy years from 2015 to 2025, including recoveries of long-outstanding claims that had been pending for close to a decade. The IGP noted that this phase marks the 11th disbursement since his assumption of office, bringing the total amount disbursed under his administration to over Twenty-Four Billion, Two Hundred Million Naira (₦24.2B), benefiting 9,735 families of fallen officers.

The Inspector-General of Police, in his remarks, described the exercise as a solemn duty of remembrance and responsibility, emphasizing the Force’s unwavering commitment to honouring the legacies of departed colleagues through deliberate action that provides meaningful support to their families. He reaffirmed that officer welfare, whether serving, retired, or deceased remains a cardinal priority of his administration, adding that the Force is redesigning its welfare architecture to be stronger, transparent, and fully digitized to ensure prompt payment of entitlements.

IGP Egbetokun expressed appreciation to the Force Insurance Unit for its diligence, the Insurance companies for meeting their obligations, and the Ministry of Police Affairs for its guidance. He also extended heartfelt gratitude to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his unwavering support to police welfare initiatives.
