Popular Singer Olamide To Feature On Glo-Sponsored African Voices ChangeMakers This Week

One of the foremost hip-hop artistes in Nigeria, Olamide Adedeji, will be guest on this week’s edition of Globacom-sponsored African Voices Changemakers on Cable News Network (CNN).

Popularly known simply as Olamide, Baddo or Baddosneh, the musical idol who was born in Bariga, Lagos, in March, 1989, will be joined on the 30-minute programme by South African dancer and choreographer, Musa Motha.

Olamide released his first album named Rapsodi in 2011 and soon established his own record label, YBNL Nation, which serves as a platform for himself as well as the next generation of musically talented youths to ply their trade.

He was adjudged Best Indigenous Artiste at the 2013 Nigeria Entertainment Awards, and has won other awards including Most Gifted Rap Artiste from West Africa in the Channel O Music Video Awards in 2014. His Baddest Guy Ever Liveth was the Album of The Year at the 2014 Headies Awards, while The Nigerian Entertainment Awards named him Rap Act of the Year in 2016.

Johannesburg-based Motha had his left leg amputated below the knee 12 years ago, owing to his struggle against osteosarcoma; a cancer that attacks the bones of the arms and legs and tends to occur in children and young adults.

He was mentored by the Reach For A Dream Foundation which encourages children to use their dreams to fight life-threatening illnesses. He has become a role model for others by rising above his disability to become a celebrated professional dancer.

African Voices Changemakers will be on DSTV channel 401 on Saturday at 9.30 a.m., with repeats on Sunday at 4.30 a.m., 7.30 a.m., 12.30 p.m., and 7.30 p.m. Another repeat comes up on Monday at 4.00 a.m., while a two-part, 15-minute rebroadcast runs on Tuesday and Wednesday at 6.45 p.m.
