What ASR Africa Just Did To Upskill 100 Empowered Widows
In a significant step to support and empower widows, ASR Africa, in collaboration with the International Women’s Society (IWS), recently conducted an intensive business management training for 100 widows who were awarded the ASR Africa Widows Support Grant earlier this year.
This initiative aims to ensure that beneficiaries gain the skills and tools needed to effectively run their small businesses, maximize the benefits of the grant, and achieve long-term success.

Mrs. Adebanke Adeola, Chairperson of the IWS Widows Trust Fund, expressed her gratitude for IWS’s consistent support for the widows and encouraged the beneficiaries to apply their newfound knowledge to enhance their business operations.
She highlighted the importance of using the resources wisely to achieve sustainable growth and success in their ventures.

Dr. Ubon Udoh, MD/CEO of ASR Africa, also commended the IWS team for their invaluable contribution to women’s empowerment through scholarships, skills training, and education programs.
He emphasized ASR Africa’s dedication not only to financial support but also to providing technical assistance when needed. Dr. Udoh further praised Alhaji Abdul Samad Rabiu, Chairman of ASR Africa and the BUA Group, whose vision for sustainable development in Africa inspired this widows’ empowerment initiative.
The event also served as an opportunity for ASR Africa and IWS to conduct in-person assessments of the beneficiaries’ progress and clarify grant expectations.
Many of the widows voiced their appreciation for the program and pledged to utilize the grant to its fullest potential.

Since its inception in 1998, the IWS Widows Trust Fund has supported over 2,500 widows with business tools, grants, and scholarships for their children, enabling them to build self-sustaining livelihoods and secure brighter futures for their families.
