Why Polaris Bank CEO Tokunbo Abiru May Emerge Senator Bayo Osinowo’s Successor

There are indications Tokunbo Abiru, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Director of Polaris Bank PLC may emerge the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead the coming Lagos East Senatorial election.

The senatorial seat became vacant following the death of Lagos politician, Senator Sikiru Adebayo Osinowo.

Senator Osinowo, a close ally of APC national leader and former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, died of complication from coronavirus on June 15, 2020.

The senatorial election to replace “Pepper”, as Osinowo is popularly known, is scheduled for Saturday, October 31, 2020.

Major contenders for the seat include former speaker, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, Ex-Governorship aspirant Bode Oyedele, former member of Lagos house of Assembly, Lanre Olusanya, former house of representatives member, Dayo Alebiosu and Ex-Commissioner, Dele Alake.

Interestingly, Lanre Olusanya, a former member of Lagos State House of Assembly, has already announced his resignation from the race while declaring total support for Abiru’s aspiration.

Information at the disposal of highstreet.ng showed Mr Abiru has the backing of Lagos East Stakeholders as well as Governance Advisory Council (GAC), the highest decision making body in Lagos APC.

And the said backing of Governance Advisory Council, especially, is evidently a pointer to who Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s choice is, a source maintained.

“From my understanding, GAC will hardly take a decision without Asiwaju giving the go-ahead…”, the source explained.
