2025 MTN-MIP: Meet The 20 Fellows

Leading telecommunications company, MTN Nigeria, in partnership with the School of Media and Communication, Pan-Atlantic University, have announced the fourth cohort of the Media Innovation Programme (MIP), to provide training for 20 media practitioners across print, broadcast, electronic and social media platforms.

The programme is a six-month, fully funded certificate programme designed to upskill media practitioners in Nigeria with the tools, knowledge and exposure required to report effectively in a fast-changing, technology-driven world.

The MTN Media Innovation Programme (MIP) was launched in 2022 to strengthen Nigeria’s media ecosystem by equipping journalists and content creators with a deeper understanding of the changing media landscape and the role of technology in shaping the future of communication. Through a mix of in-class learning, study visits, and hands-on training, participants gain a richer perspective on Nigeria’s technology sector and its intersection with media.

“We are proud to collaborate with MTN in equipping media professionals with the mindset and capabilities to lead in a digital-first, ethically driven media environment,” said Prof. Ngozi Opara, representing Dr. Ikechukwu Obiaya, Dean of the School of Media and Communication, Pan-Atlantic University. “ Our graduates don’t just report the news—they shape society. MIP was designed to transform thinking and practice. As the media space evolves globally, MIP will equip professionals with the tools, creativity, and technical know-how to lead the change, like AI-driven storytelling.”

Speaking on the importance of the programme, Tobe Okigbo, Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer, MTN Nigeria, said: “It’s an honour to welcome the fourth cohort. MIP started as an idea from my team and has become one of the most impactful initiatives I’m proud of at MTN. Out of over 3,000 applicants, only 20 of you made it—this reflects the calibre of talent we’re nurturing. We want to see journalists who care about this country and are committed to using their work to make it better. Bring your best self to the program and make it count.”

Chineze Gbenga-Oluwatoye, General Manager, Corporate Affairs, MTN Nigeria, encouraged the fellows to think long-term: “Build capacity, sharpen your skills, and become so grounded in your craft that excellence becomes second nature. Storytelling can spark movements—one idea, one voice can tip the scale. That’s the kind of impact we hope you will make.”
