Why Mai Atafo Extended Mentorship Series

Nigerian creative director and fashion entrepreneur, Mai Atafo, has extended his fashion mentorship series, following an overwhelming turnout of participants for the first edition of the year that held at the Atafo studio in Lekki, Lagos, on March 26, 2023.

The initiative – “Fashion Conversations”, aimed at empowering aspiring young African fashion designers and enthusiasts, was initially scheduled to run for one day on March 26, 2023, in Lekki, Lagos. However, the Lagos leg of the Macallan-sponsored workshop has been extended by an additional day due to popular demand.

Mai Atafo, passionate about inspiring and enabling the next generation of fashion creatives, led the initial workshop, which covered topics, including design, branding, marketing, and other essential skills. He is set to further dish out nuggets from his over two-decade-long experience in the event repeat.

“Today’s edition was quite successful. But even before today, the event was already fully subscribed. So, we thought to create another one here next week for more people. The whole idea is to try to touch as many people as possible, try to impact lives and train people to become masters in their craft”, he said during the session

Renowned Scottish luxury whisky brand, The Macallan, collaborated with Mai Atafo to answer pressing questions and give valuable insights into Africa’s over $31 billion fashion industry in order to contribute to the growth of the creative sector. The ultra-premium brand also provided participants with an unforgettable luxury experience, which included flawless ambience through exhibitions of the brand’s premium whiskies.

On Sunday, April 2, 2023, the workshop will again provide young fashion enthusiasts with the opportunity to learn from one of Africa’s leading fashion designers and get glimpses of the world’s finest whiskies. The upcoming workshop is expected to attract a good deal of participants, as the initial session is already being hailed as a success.
