“A Patriot, Statesman, And Proud Son Of Our Dear State” – Gov Abiodun Reacts To Doyin Okupe’s Death

The Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun has described the late former Presidential Aide, Dr Doyin Okupe as patriot, Statesman, and proud citizen of the gateway state.

He made the comment after a condolence visit to the home of the deceased physician who passed on in the early hours of Friday, March 7, 2025.

Governor Abiodun’s reaction to the late politician’s demise via his social media handle reads…

Yesterday, we paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Dr. Adedoyin Ajibike Okupe to personally express our sympathies and honour his legacy. His passing is not just a loss to his loved ones but to Ogun State and Nigeria as a whole.

Dr. Okupe was a patriot, statesman, and proud son of our dear state. His demise, coming so soon after the transition of the Alaperu of Iperu Remo, Oba Adeleke Idowu-Basibo, is a profound personal loss.

A principled leader, he played a vital role in Nigeria’s democratic journey, serving as Special Assistant to President Obasanjo, Senior Special Assistant to President Jonathan, and a respected media strategist. Though trained as a medical doctor, his influence extended far beyond medicine, leaving a lasting impact on politics, governance, and public discourse.

Even in his later years, despite health challenges, he remained unwavering in his advocacy for a better Nigeria. His intellect, humility, and dedication will be greatly missed.

We pray that Almighty God grants his family the strength to bear this loss. May his soul rest in peace. Amen. 🕊️
