AEDC Blames Maitama Power Outage On Land Grabbers’ Invasion
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has revealed that a power supply disruption in Maitama and its environs is due to the unlawful takeover of its C2 Maitama Substation by land grabbers.
According to a statement by the company’s management, the illegal encroachment was allegedly supervised by Mr. Chinedu Okoro, an Assistant Director at the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA).
Condemning the incident, the AEDC management stated:
“The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) regrets to inform customers in Maitama and surrounding areas that it is currently unable to supply electricity from the C2 Maitama Substation. This is due to the recent invasion and unlawful encroachment of the facility by land grabbers, led by an FCDA Assistant Director, Mr. Chinedu Okoro.
The C2 Maitama Substation is a critical national installation serving homes, businesses, diplomatic missions, and government institutions. During the encroachment, vital cables and network infrastructure were damaged, making it technically impossible and unsafe to maintain power supply from the facility.
AEDC has petitioned the relevant authorities regarding these illegal activities, as the substation and the land duly belong to the company. We expect a thorough investigation and swift legal action.
We strongly condemn any attacks on critical national infrastructure. Such actions deprive communities of essential services, disrupt economic activities, and compromise public safety.
AEDC regrets the inconvenience caused. We assure customers that restoration efforts will commence as soon as the substation is secured and the damaged infrastructure is rebuilt. We appreciate your patience and support as we work with law enforcement to resolve this situation.”
