Amosun’s Position As Adekunle Akinlade Gets PDP Deputy Gov Slot
The former Governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun, has taken a decision ahead of the 2023 gubernatorial election in the state.
Amosun, who currently represents Ogun Central senatorial district in the National Assembly, is a ranking member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Dapo Abiodun, his successor, who won the party ticket against his wish in 2019, has picked the ruling party’s reelection ticket for the 2023 gubernatorial election.
Interestingly, Adekunle Akinlade – a close ally of Amosun who left the APC for Allied Peoples Movement (APM) to contest the 2019 guber poll when his (Amosun) bid to secure the party ticket for him failed – has once again dumped the ruling party.
Akinlade had earlier returned to APC after he unsuccessfully challenged Governor Abiodun’s victory up to the supreme court level.
But this time, the former governorship candidate has pitched his tent with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) where he has been given the deputy governorship slot of the main opposition party.
Ladi Adebutu, the son of billionaire businessman, Kessington Adebukunola Adebutu, is the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Those who are familiar with Senator Amosun and his political movement revealed the relationship that exists between him and Mr. Akinlade – married to former beauty queen, Chinenye Ochuba – remains intact.
And his position on development playing out is straightforward, “he will not work against Akinlade as far as 2023 gubernatorial election in Ogun State is concerned,” a source disclosed.
More so now that his plot to hijack the APC ticket for Ogun Central senatorial district from Shuaib Salisu appears unrealizable.
Mr. Shuaib Salisu is governor Dapo Abiodun’s Chief of Staff.
