Aregbesola Stages Major Move Against Gov Oyetola’s Reelection
There are indications Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola is orchestrating a major move against the second term ambition of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola.
Aregbesola who currently serves in the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari as Minister of Interior preceded Oyetola in office as governor of Osun State.
Interestingly the latter was Aregbesola’s Chief of Staff throughout his eight years reign.
Mr Oyetola reportedly emerged the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) against the wish of the then incumbent governor Aregbesola in 2018.
Another governorship election holds in Osun State in 2022.
Sources in the know told highstreet.ng that former governor Aregbesola has again begun canvassing for an arrangement that will see the incumbent ending up with just a single term in office.
Highstreet.ng understands Mr Aregbesola and his key followers are said to be playing up the card “the party 2022 gubernatorial ticket should go to the district that has not produced a governor since the return of democratic rule”.
Checks by highstreet.ng showed Osun West is the only of the three zones in the state that is yet to produce governor since the return of democracy in 1999.
And available information revealed Adelere Adeyemi Oriolowo, a serving senator, to be the individual Aregbesola and his men are rooting for.
Reason for this is simple, they believe his choice and largely the fact that he’s from Osun West will ultimately put incumbent Oyetola’s ambition in jeopardy, an insider state.
Oriolowo, 64, is the senator representing Osun West Senatorial District in the Senate.
The trio of Aregbesola. Oyetola and Oriolowo are members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Information pieced together also revealed Senator Oriolowo to be Aregbesola’s choice as successor ahead 2018 gubernatorial election in Osun State before Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu prevailed on him.
“Oriolowo was the person Aregbesola was rooting for in ahead APC primary in 2018… But the game changed when Asiwaju Tinubu stepped and insisted on fielding Oyetola”, a source who is familiar with the arrangement volunteered.
