Army Chief Commissions Remodelled Vulcan Officers’ Mess In Kontagora

The Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu Nigerian Army Medal ably represented by the Commander Corps of Artillery Major General John Adeyemo has commissioned the remodelled and renovated Vulcan Officers’ Mess in Kontagora Military Cantonment in Niger State.

The commissioning ceremony took place at the Cantonment on 25 March 2026. He stated that the Mess is meant to promote professionalism, regimentation and social activities that will enhance civil – military relationship in Kontagora and environs. Adding that officers, heads of sister security, honourary members should take advantage of the Mess to social, interact and share ideas to the success of our operations generally.

He further employed robust patronage of the facility such as the Mess hall, multi- purpose hall, kitchen for better catering services by officers, head of security agencies, honourary members.

Speaking during the ceremony, the Commander Corps of Artillery Major General John Adeyemo appreciate the then Chief of Army Staff now Chief of Defence Staff General Olufemi Oluyede for approving the remodelled and renovated Vulcan Officers’ Mess. Adding that the facility will boost and encourage interact, social activities and regimentation in general.

He thanked the initiator and executor of the project who is the immediate past Commander Corps of Artillery Major General Zakari Abubakar (Retired) whose tenure added value to the Vulcan facility and that it will increase the welfare and social life of its users, Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery, Nigerian Army, Kontagora and Niger State at large.

The project initiator and executor, former Commander Corps of Artillery Major General Zakari Abubakar (Retired) appreciates the then COAS and now CDS for approving the remodelled and renovated Vulcan Mess and release of funds to achieve its present state. He stated that the initiative came to bear in other to boost officers social life, regimentation, interact with other security agencies, civil populace and to encourage civil – military relations.

The ceremony was graced by Commander Nigerian Army Training Centre Major General Abubakar Haruna, officers from Headquarters Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery and Nigerian Army Training Centre, members of the academia, head of sister security agencies, Chairman Kontagora Local Government Area, stakeholders within Kontagora, honourary members, members of the Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association, members of the press and invited guests. The ceremony witness the commissioning of the Mess, unveiling of plaque, inspection of the facility, get-together and was climaxed with group photograph.
