Army Chief Leads Top-Level Security Assessment Team To Plateau

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on Thursday, 2 April 2026, led heads of security agencies on an on-the-spot assessment of the security situation in Jos, Plateau State. The visit forms part of ongoing efforts to restore calm and entrench lasting peace across the state. Upon arrival, the COAS was received by the Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Caleb Mutfwang, in a clear demonstration of strong civil-military cooperation and a shared commitment to addressing emerging security challenges.

During the visit, the COAS received a comprehensive operational briefing from the General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander, Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, Major General Folusho Oyinlola. The briefing highlighted ongoing operations and proactive measures being implemented in synergy with other security agencies to contain threats, protect lives and property and stabilize affected communities.

As part of his engagements, Lieutenant General Shaibu also interacted with community leaders and residents, reassuring them of the unwavering commitment of the Nigerian Army to safeguarding all law-abiding citizens. He urged residents to remain calm, vigilant and supportive of security agencies by complying with the curfew and cooperating fully with ongoing operations and investigations, while going about their lawful activities.

The Chairman of Jos North Local Government Area, Hon. Barr. John Kyoroh Christopher, commended the COAS for the timely visit, noting that the presence of the nation’s top military leadership would boost public confidence and reinforce trust in ongoing security efforts. Similarly, the Councillor representing Naraguta ‘B’ Ward, Hon. Ladi Dangyok, expressed appreciation for the swift intervention, describing it as a strong reassurance to affected communities.

The Nigerian Army, under the leadership of the COAS, remains resolute in working closely with sister security agencies, the Plateau State Government and critical stakeholders to decisively address all security challenges. This coordinated approach highlights a firm strategic resolve to restore enduring peace, strengthen community resilience and ensure that Plateau State remains safe and secure for all.
