Barkindo – The Secretary General Of OPEC – Dies In Abuja

Muhammad Sanusi Barkindo, the Secretary General of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), is dead.

He gave up the ghost on Tuesday, July 5, 2022.

The capital of Abuja is reported to be the place of death of the former GMD of NNPC whose tenure as Secretary General of OPEC ends on July 31.

His death occurred hours after he was received by President Muhammadu Buhari, who described him as a worthy ambassador of the country, at the state house.

Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Group Managing Director, Mele Kyari, broke the news of his demise via his twitter handle in the early hours of today July 6, 2022.

“We lost our esteemed Dr Muhammad Sanusi Barkindo. He died at about 11pm yesterday 5th July 2022. Certainly a great loss to his immediate family, the NNPC, our country Nigeria, the OPEC and the global energy community. Burial arrangements will be announced shortly”, Mr Kyari tweeted.
