The 2019-20 Premier League season has been suspended since March, but SuperSport viewers will be delighted to know that teams have returned to training and the campaign is hoping to resume in June 2020, meaning that it is likely that there is less than a month left until the English top flight returns to their screens!

While DStv subscribers eagerly await this momentous occasion, here are the most salient statistics which sum up the story of the 2019-20 Premier League so far:

784 – The total number of goals scored in the 2019-20 Premier League season, at an average of 2.72 per match. The 2018-19 campaign had 1072 goals at an average of 2.82 per match.

25 – The points lead enjoyed by table-toppers Liverpool, who look destined to win their first Premier League title since 1990 when the season is completed. “This team is not a finished article,” said manager Jurgen Klopp. “It’s not done yet, we have a lot of space for improvement yet. There is fresh blood internally coming up. We can mix things through. We can improve it with this team which is really great.”

5 – Jurgen Klopp has won five of the seven Manager of the Month awards given out this season, reflecting Liverpool’s dominance of the Premier League.

11 – The number of clean sheets kept by Burnley’s Nick Pope, the best record of any goalkeeper in the Premier League this season.

92 – The number scheduled matches remaining in the 2019-20 Premier League season.

19 – The number of goals netted by Jamie Vardy, who tops the Premier League scoring charts ahead of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (17), Sergio Aguero and Mohamed Salah (16 each). “It’s freakish what he’s done for Leicester this season,” said Paul Merson. “He’s recaptured his form and is back to the Vardy we all knew, and that Vardy is an absolute nightmare to play against.”

8 – There have been eight hat-tricks so far this Premier League season. Two of them arrived in the same match, with both Ayoze Perez and Jamie Vardy scoring three goals in Leicester City’s 9-0 away win over Southampton. The Foxes’ victory over the Saints is the biggest win of the season so far, the highest-scoring match and equalled Manchester United’s 9-0 win over Ipswich in 1995 as the biggest win in Premier League history.

27 – Liverpool had put together a run of 27 unbeaten Premier League matches this season before that record was ended by Watford, who ironically have the longest winless run of the campaign with 11 matches.

16 – Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne is way out ahead in the assists chart, teeing up 16 Premier League  goals for teammates so far this season.
