Cheering News As Bayelsa IGR hits N5b In March

Bayelsa State Government has recorded a major breakthrough in the collection of its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) with an unprecedented N5 billion in a single month of March, 2025.

The recorded revenue showed a staggering 420 percent increase from the previous figure of N1.2 billion monthly.

The Chairman of the State Internal Revenue Board, Dr. Daniel Eniekezimene, who broke the cheering news in an interview with Prosperity Update, said the remarkable feat was achieved following in-house changes, strong monitoring system and massive drive for revenue collection.

According to Dr. Eniekezimene, he met an average monthly IGR of N1.2 billion, and stated that as a professional accountant, he embarked on aggressive collection in line with the efficient application of all extant rules for taxes, levies and rates.

Dr. Eniekezimene, a former Accountant-General of the State appreciated Governor Douye Diri for the support to the board in its new initiative and innovation and announced that the target would be to raise the IGR to a satisfactory amount that should be able to cover up the salaries of public servants in the State.

“Since my appointment as Chairman, we have brought so many innovation to taxes and levies collections. First, we made some personnel changes in-house and now we have blocked some leakages. These measures are preparatory to the introduction of electronic tax collection”

“That’s our next move and we are confident that the monthly IGR will move beyond the N5 billion we have recorded even this March, 2025. We have achieved steady growth in our figures over the past months”, he stated.
