DC Afeni Speaks On Revenue Growth As Ogun I Customs Hands Over Seized Arms, Ammunition To NCCSALW
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun I Area Command, has aligned its revenue generation drive with robust security enforcement, recording an 84.3 per cent increase in revenue while intensifying anti-smuggling operations across its area of responsibility.
Speaking at a press briefing held at Idiroko on Thursday, 29 January 2026, the Acting Customs Area Controller (Ag. CAC) Deputy Comptroller of Customs (DC) Oladapo Afeni, disclosed that the Command generated and remitted a total of ₦106,277,312.00 into the Federation Account between 1 January and 28 January 2026.
DC Afeni explained that the figure represents a significant improvement over the ₦89,584,419.00 recorded during the corresponding period in 2025, reflecting an 84.3 per cent growth in revenue performance.
“We have started the year on a strong footing. From 1 January 2026 to 28 January 2026, the Command collected and remitted ₦106,277,312.00 to the Federation Account, which is above what was generated in the same month last year,” he stated.
On anti-smuggling, the Ag. CAC revealed that the Command intercepted 487 consignments of prohibited and smuggled goods within the period under review.
Items seized included 22,725 bags of 50kg foreign parboiled rice, 2,669 kegs of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), 2,128 red star cartridges, 13,332 parcels of Cannabis Sativa, 25 bales of used clothing, 11 units of foreign-used vehicles and a tractor, 2,034 pieces of used pneumatic tyres, 1,315 pieces of Riodin explosives and 11 Dane guns, among other illicit items.
He disclosed that the total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of the seizures stood at ₦4,130,931,100, compared to ₦1,791,007,246 recorded in 2024.
In line with inter-agency collaboration, the seized items were handed over to relevant security agencies to strengthen national security and safeguard border communities.
Receiving the seized ammunition on behalf of the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW), the South-West Coordinator, Commissioner of Police Abiola Alamutu (rtd.), commended the NCS for its professionalism and sustained partnership.
“The Service has been a viable partner in the fight against challenges of proliferation of small arms and light weapons. The outcome of what we are seeing today is the result of diligence, commitment and professionalism of their officers,” he stated.
