Delta Works Commissioner Suspended For ‘Assaulting Governor’s Aide’

Reuben Izeze, the Delta State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), has been suspended indefinitely.

The state government, led by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, wielded the big stick against the cabinet member over allegations linking him to the assault of Simon Mudi, the Senior Special Assistant on Protocol to the governor.

The suspension takes effect immediately.

According to a report by The Cable, the decision was announced in an official statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, on Monday.

“The suspension is to enable the security agencies to carry out an unbiased investigation of allegations associating him with the assault on the Senior Special Assistant on Protocol, Mr. Simon Mudi, also known as Temple, at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, recently,” the statement reads.

The development followed the emergence of a viral video showing Mudi being chased and repeatedly struck with bottles and chairs during a political meeting at the PTI Conference Centre in Effurun. In the footage, Mr. Mudi was seen being pursued by attackers as he desperately attempted to escape.

An Effurun High Court has also remanded Izeze in custody for 14 days while investigations continue.
