Details As Omisore Dares Minister Gboyega Oyetola
Those who are familiar with Osun State politics have said there is a political fight in the offing between the immediate past governor of Osun State, Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola and Senator Iyiola Omisore.
The fight, highstreet.ng pieced together, is over who picks gubernatorial ticket of the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2026 election in the state.
The duo are said to have discreetly begun scheming for the APC gubernatorial ticket, multiple sources maintain.
“We will definitely witnessed a battle of two heavy weights soon. Oyetola is interested in coming back and Omisore who is serial contender has promised to give it all it takes this time around. And currently pushing the narratives it’s the turn of Ile-Ife, his political base”, a familiar told highstreet.ng.
Oyetola – now Minister of Marine and Blue Economy – had earlier governed Osun State between 2018 and 2022 but limited to a single term due to infighting between him and his predecessor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.
He lost the 2022 governorship election to Ademola Adeleke – the man he trounced in 2018 to emerged governor in 2018 – of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Omisore, a former deputy governor and the candidate of Social Democratic Party (SDP), who has Mr Oyetola and former Governor Kayode Fayemi to thank for his former position as Secretary of the Ruling party, pulled the string that gave Oyetola the winning numbers during the rerun election.
But now, the unexpected is about to happen as the duo who became political alley after the 2018 gubernatorial rerun election are scheming to outsmart one another ahead of 2026 contest.
