Gov Eno Flags Off Ministerial Briefings To Strengthen Governance

In a bid to set the governance agenda, front-load priority projects and strengthen service delivery across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has flagged off the 2026 Ministerial Briefing exercise.
The Governor formally commenced the two-week exercise while addressing an enlarged Executive Council meeting at the Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Uyo, describing the briefing as timely, strategic and necessary.
Governor Eno explained that the ministerial briefings would provide Commissioners, Heads of Agencies and Managing Directors the opportunity to render accounts of stewardship, consolidate achievements recorded over the past two and a half years, and align their operations with the ARISE Agenda of his administration.
One week after holding the State Executive Council meeting on the first working day if the year, the Governor reconvened Commissioners, Heads of Agencies and Managing Directors at the Exco Chamber and charged them to make structured, concise and data-driven presentations, clearly demonstrating how their activities have impacted their staff and the people of Akwa Ibom State.
According to him, the essence of the exercise is to deepen accountability, improve coordination across MDAs and ensure that governance outcomes remain people-centred and result-oriented.
The Governor announced that the first day of the briefing, scheduled for Monday, January 12, 2026, by 3:00 p.m., will feature presentations by the Commissioner for Works,; the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, the Commissioner for Education and Chairman, Ibom Tourism Board. He expressed optimism that the sessions would be interactive and productive.
Beyond the briefing exercise, Governor Eno urged Commissioners to return to their respective political strongholds to mobilise residents for voter registration, noting that the current turnout remains unsatisfactory.
The Governor further disclosed that 2026 will be a year of intensive governance and political engagement, with plans to execute over sixty priority projects, in addition to ongoing road construction across the State.
He announced that from February, three Commissioners will be scheduled for regular briefings coordinated by the Commissioner for Information, while the Chief Press Secretary, Mr Ekerete Udoh, will continue to feature Commissioners weekly on radio programmes, including Matters Arising.
Governor Eno also directed contractors handling government projects to prioritise the fixing of potholes, particularly within the Uyo metropolis, as the dry season sets in, stressing that funds have been released for immediate intervention.
He charged Commissioners to be more proactive in the discharge of their duties, warning that excuses would not be tolerated, as 2026 is a year of action, delivery and measurable results.
