Gov Eno Set To Flag Off Construction Of 12.5km Uyo-Ikono Road Project

In fulfillment of his campaign promise and commitment to rural development, Governor Umo  Eno  will today, flag off the construction of the 12.5-kilometre Nung Ukim–Afaha Obio Enwang–Nung Udoe–Itak Road, a strategic project that cuts across Uyo and Ikono Local Government Areas of Akwa Ibom State.

The flag-off ceremony scheduled to hold today at Nung Ukim by 4:00 PM, marks a significant milestone in the state’s effort to end years of suffering experienced by residents of the affected communities due to the road’s deplorable condition.

Awarded through the Ministry of Works and Fire Service, and to be executed by an indigenous firm, Verini Construction Company Limited, the road project forms part of the Governor’s push to open up rural areas and enhance connectivity under the  infrastructure expansion pillar of the ARISE Agenda.

With an 8-metre wide carriageway, 25 kilometres of side drains, and reinforced culverts and outfall drains at key points, the construction is designed for durability. The road will be layered with a 150mm sub-base, 150mm stone base, and a 50mm asphalt wearing course.

When completed, the road is expected to boost socio-economic activities, facilitate the movement of agricultural produce to urban markets, strengthen security coverage, and increase the aesthetic and investment appeal of the region. Most importantly, it will link several underserved communities to the wider state road network, improving access and mobility.

A release by the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Umanah, says the project  is a reflection of Governor Eno’s people-first leadership style and a clear demonstration of governance that responds directly to the needs of the people.

“This road project is not just concrete and asphalt. It is a promise kept and a lifeline restored. It represents a new chapter for the people of Uyo and Ikono who have suffered for years due to poor road infrastructure,” the Commissioner stated.

The release enjoins Community members, stakeholders, and government officials  to come out and witness the flag-off ceremony, which signals yet another stride in the state’s drive toward inclusive development and rural transformation.
