Gov Obaseki Suffers Another Major Blow

The governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki has received yet another deadly blow.

Joseph Ikpea, the Commissioner for Minerals, Oil and Gas in his government just announced his resignation.

Mr Ikpea tendered his resignation letter on Wednesday, September 9, 2020, citing the fact that he’s not comfortable leaving his party, the All Progressives Congress  (APC) as well as failure of Gov Obaseki’s administration to recognise his leadership role during his tenure as commissioner as reasons for his decision.

Governor Godwin Obaseki had, following his disqualification, left the ruling APC for Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on June 16, 2020.

His (Ikpea) resignation came barely 10 days to Edo State gubernatorial election.

The election holds on Saturday, September 19, 2020.

Ikpea’s resignation made it the fourth Obaseki’s government has witnessed in the recent time.

Those who are familiar with the political terrain of the South-South state revealed the latest to be a devastating development for reelection seeking governor Obaseki.

Taiwo Akerele, the chief of staff to the governor had left the government on April 25, 2020.

Afterward was the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Paul Ohonbamu who turned in his letter of resignation in June.

And that of Commissioner in charge of  Environment and Sustainability ministry swiftly followed in July.
