The highlight from Spain for this weekend is the clash between Valencia and Atletico Madrid at Estadio de Mestalla on the afternoon of Saturday 28 November. Valencia have already put one capital-city team to the sword on their home ground – thrashing Real Madrid 4-1 prior to the international break – and they will aim for a second such performance when Atleti head to the coast.
“In order to achieve such a result you have to do many things well,” explained Los Che manager Javi Gracia. “We put in a great effort. It isn’t usual for you to receive three penalties, but in my opinion they were all very clear. The result is a consequence of the many things the team did well.”
Valencia have not beaten the Rojiblancos in La Liga since October 2014, but matches between these teams have been closely contested in recent times, with four of their last six meetings ending in draws.
Elsewhere this weekend, Real Madrid will be expected to put in a strong performance on home soil when they welcome Deportivo Alaves to Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano on Saturday night, while the same will be expected of Barcelona the following afternoon when they host Osasuna at the Camp Nou.
Another key clash sees Real Sociedad host Villarreal at San Sebastian on Sunday night, with the Basque side hoping to tie down manager Imanol Alguacil after his excellent work has attracted attention from the likes of Internazionale.
