How Abdul Samad Rabiu, BUA Group & ASR Africa Dazzled With Multiple Prestigious Awards At SISA 2024
One of the major contributors to Nigeria’s national development, Abdul Samad Rabiu, has received yet another major recognition.
His vehicle of change, BUA Group, and ASR Africa also received separate awards for high-impact values in their different spheres.
The industrialist, widely acknowledged as the definition of best practices across different spheres, has been decorated with a lifetime achievement award in philanthropy.

He was honored at the 2024 edition of the Social Impact and Sustainability Awards (SISA) on November 24, 2024.
The body celebrating corporate responsibility and sustainability frontrunners across Nigeria honored the African giant for outstanding leadership and unwavering dedication to creating meaningful social impact.
BUA Group—the leading foods, infrastructure, mining, and manufacturing conglomerate—with the champion of a better Nigeria as founder and Chairman, making immense contributions to the country’s economy while also transforming the lives of its host communities, was given CSR (corporate social responsibility) awards for community empowerment and development as well as for poverty alleviation at SISA 2024.
Among other things, the awards speak to BUA Group’s outstanding efforts in uplifting communities and creating sustainable opportunities for economic empowerment in the fight against poverty.

BUA Group’s N2 billion donation to support victims of the devastating flood in Borno State, far-reaching generosity in major cities and rural communities, including the construction of roads, health facilities, and other basic amenities, plus grants and donations to groups, societies, institutions, and persons, highlight some of the actions that earned the recognition.
ASR (Abdul Samad Rabiu) Africa Initiative, the largest charity gesture of its kind by an individual in Africa, also founded by the BUA Chairman, was honored as the NGO (non-government organisation) of the Year in recognition of its outstanding contribution to social development and other impactful initiatives that drive positive change.

ASR Africa’s Chief Executive Officer, Ubon Udom, bagged the Chief Executive Officer of the Year for his visionary leadership, remarkable achievements, and unwavering commitment to social responsibility.

He received the awards on behalf of Chairman Abdul Samad Rabiu and beneficiary organisations and emphasized that the recognitions are “a well-deserved reflection of Alhaji Abdul Samad Rabiu’s contribution to the nation’s development, especially in the education space.”
Founded by Abdul Samad Rabiu, ASR Africa Initiative is the philanthropy providing sustainable, impact-based, and innovative solutions to developmental issues across Africa, particularly Nigeria, through steps that include an annual N5.5 billion grant to twenty-two (22) universities under its Tertiary Education Grant Schemes (TEGS). The Initiative operates on an annual pledge of $100,000,000 (USD), with $50,000,000 earmarked for Nigeria and $50,000,000 for the rest of Africa.

Some of ASR Africa’s interventions in the education sector include the construction of the N250 million lecture theatre and other facilities at ADSU, adding to the list of other high-value projects by ASR Africa Initiative across different universities. These include the state-of-the-art hostel block for the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUT Minna), the N250 million College of Health Sciences Office Block for Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto State, and the N250 million Admin Block and Conference Room for Al-Qalam University, Katsina, the N1 billion Career Support & Cleaner Energy Solutions Center at the University of Ibadan, and the N1 billion Abdul Samad Rabiu International Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center at the University of Maiduguri.
