Inside The 10 Major Economic Strides That Earned BUA Chairman Abdul Samad Rabiu Accolades From President Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, August 12, 2022, declared “I am impressed and proud,” by the huge leaps BUA Group the conglomerate definition of commerce Abdul Samad Rabiu as Chairman and founder has recorded under his administration.

The president asserted the giant steps recorded BUA Group as the testimony of “the correctness” of the policies of his administration.

President Buhari gave the commendation during a courtesy visit by the management of BUA Group led by Chairman, Abdul Samad Rabiu, at the state house, Abuja.

Here are some of the major successes recorded by BUA Group – and the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa) also founded by Abdul Samad Rabiu – since 2015 when President Buhari, who secured another term in office in 2019, was first elected.

  • 4 new Cement plants built since 2015. 2 more to be completed by 2023 in Edo and Sokoto States.
  • a new 750,000mtpa sugar refinery in Port Harcourt and 2 shipping vessels for exports
  • New Flour and Pasta Lines. Capacity to be doubled by Q4, 2022 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
  • Upgrade of our existing Rice mill, parboiling and processing plant in Kano.
  • 20,000hectares 4-in-1 fully integrated sugar plantation in Lafiagi, Kwara State with a sugar mill, sugar refinery, ethanol plant and 30MW power plant. components are completed and the rest, 2023.
  • a 200,000bpd refinery and 300,000mtpa polypropylene being built in Akwa Ibom with Axens of France providing key technologies.
  • a Plaster of Paris (PoP) plant currently being constructed in Rivers State. First of its kind in Nigeria.
  • 2 subsidiaries listed on the Nigerian stock exchange. BUA Cement plc (2020) & BUA Foods (2022). Both companies now amongst the top 10 most valuable listed companies in subsaharan Africa (Min. Valuation: >$2bn)
  • donated more than N8bn in Covid19 interventions (food for almost 1m homes, infrastructure, cash grants, about 100ambulances, PPEs, etc)
  • Handed over a completed N4bn Police National Reference Hospital to the Police in Abuja
  • Donated N10bn security intervention towards equipment, infrastructure, provision of medical and other supplies for families of those on the frontlines.
