Insider Reveals Aregbesola’s Stand On Gov Oyetola’s Reelection Bid

The former Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, has reportedly taken a definite position on the reelection bid of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola.

Aregbesola, Minister of the Interior in the cabinet of President Muhammadu Buhari, and Oyetola – both ranking members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) – are engaged in a political squabble that has refused to go away.

Earlier report by highstreet.ng indicated the discord between the duo left the party in the state polarized, with a splinter group, The Osun Progressives (TOP), backed by Aregbesola springing up.

Incumbent Governor Oyetola – a former Chief of Staff to Aregbesola who eventually succeeded him – is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Interestingly, he has the main opponent in Senator Ademola Adeleke, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Osun State governorship election is scheduled to hold on Saturday, July 16, 2022.

According to information at the disposal of highstreet.ng, Mr. Aregbesola’s stand was that he remains in the ruling party but would not stop any of his followers who wished to quit from doing so. Even as the governorship election in the state is fast approaching.

“That is why you see members of The Osun Progressives (TOP) leaving the party in large numbers, and he’s not making any move to stop them,” an insider who is familiar with the development disclosed.

Checks by highstreet.ng revealed over 4000 members of the splinter group who recently moved to the opposition PDP in Oriade/Obokun federal constituency were officially hosted by serving Houses of Representatives member, Oluwole Oke.

The meeting reportedly held in Esa Oke home of the respected lawmaker on Tuesday, June 21, 2022.

Also, Kolapo Alimi, a former commissioner for LGA and chieftaincy affairs in the administration of Aregbesola, had earlier led a number of the aggrieved group out of the APC to the main opposition party.
