Insiders Reveal What Aregbesola Will Not Do As Fight With Gov Oyetola Rages On

The political fight between Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun State and his predecessor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola is still very much alive.

But in spite of the raging acrimony, those who are familiar with the state of things in Osun State, especially within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have identified steps Mr. Aregbesola who is currently in charge of the ministry of interior in the cabinet of President Muhammadu Buhari would never take.

Aregbesola, whose administration preceded incumbent Governor Oyetola, ruled Osun State for two terms of eight years (2010 – 2018).

Oyetola who was sworn in November 2018, was the Chief of Staff throughout the eight years of the administration.

Surprisingly Aregbesola and his successor became estranged when the incumbent Governor maintained he would never give in to pressure from his former boss to have control of his government.

Mr. Governor strongly kicked against his predecessor’s plot to have his men appointed into positions in his administration, information pieced together by highstreet.ng indicated.

All these didn’t go well with former governor Aregbesola, highstreet.ng understands.

Hence Minister Aregbesola’s position that his successor will be limited to a single term of four years.

Mr. Aregbesola’s stand notwithstanding, there are indications he will be left with no alternative than to throw his weight behind the incumbent if he eventually gets the party’s nod to run for another term.

“One thing is sure, Aregbesola will not move to another political party… The only viable opposition in the state is the Peoples Democratic Party PDP and we don’t see him moving there. Most importantly as a member of President Buhari’s cabinet”, an insider analysed.

Also, staying in the party and supporting any of the guber hopefuls among The Osun Progressives (TOP) who might end up pursuing his governorship ambition on the platform of another party is not an idea the former governor would likely consider…”, another source pointed out.

The Osun Progressives is a faction of the ruling APC in Osun backed by Rauf Aregbesola and populated by like minds who are opposed to Mr. Oyetola’s reelection bid.
