Insiders Reveal Why Oyetola, Aregbesola’s Feud May Not End Soon
In spite of several reconciliation moves, emerging information has indicated that the raging political fight between the governor of Osun State, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola and his predecessor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola may not end anytime soon.
Incumbent Governor Oyetola and the man he took over from became estranged when the former took a stand that he would never allow Aregbesola to have control of his government, highstreet.ng pieced together.
That explains why he blocked the move by Mr Aregbesola – now the minister of Interior in the cabinet of President Muhammadu Buhari – to make his son, Kabiru, Chief of Staff in his administration, a source pointed out.
Interestingly, incumbent Governor Oyetola was the Chief of Staff throughout the eight years reign of Aregbesola in Osun State.
Checks by highstreet.ng reveal that former governor Aregbesola’s stand that his successor will be limited to a single term of four years has further put things in bad shape.
Another gubernatorial election holds in Osun State on July 16, 2022.
Governor Oyetola has indicated interest in running for another term.
And there have been unsuccessful efforts within the state and beyond to ensure the two warring chieftains of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) sheath their swords, highstreet.ng understands.
Those who have deep knowledge of the state of things maintained there is no end in sight as far as the discord is concerned.
Especially, now that Bola Ahmed Tinubu appears uninterested, an insider stated.
I don’t think there is end in sight as regards the ongoing fight between the governor (Oyetola) and his predecessor (Aregbesola)… you can see there have been several attempts at reconciling them but they all ended in deadlock.
The latest of such efforts was yesterday’s – January 9, 2022 – visit of the Senator Abdullahi Adamu-led APC National Reconciliation committee where issues relating to parallel congresses among other things were discussed.
The only man who could possibly do the magic is Asiwaju Bola Tinubu… and we have yet to see him doing that, another source pointed out.
