The Speaker of Lagos House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, has commended Governor Babajide Sanwo – Olu and members of his cabinet for their prompt reaction to the index case of coronavirus in Lagos on Wednesday, February 26, 2020.

” We should commend our State governor for his efforts on the matter (coronavirus).

But, we should call on the governor to implement the provision of the law on Centre for Cancer and Diseases Control which was passed in the 8th assembly.”

Obasa said this while reacting to members comments on coronavirus raised under Matter of Public Importance by Hon Hakeem Sokunle( Oshodi/Isolo 1) during the plenary session on Monday, March 2, 2020.

He said implementing the Lagos State Institute for Cancer and Diseases Control of 2017, will enable the state to put in place health institutions that will be on ground before the outbreak of any disease.
He said such institutions would be prepared to battle diseases at all times.

He further urged the Governor , Mr Sanwo – Olu to reach out to different organisations in the state such as, NURTW, CDAs, CDCs, Local Government Councils, Markets Women and Men, Schools etc, to begin sensitization campaign on personal hygiene and necessary information that will curb the spread of the deadly virus.

The speaker also said stopping large gathering of people in a place for now particularly, in churches , mosques and social parties is not too much of sacrifice to make .
