“Leadership Is About Confronting Challenges” — Presidential Aide Ogra Slams Peter Obi’s “Run Away” Remark

Otega Ogra, a Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu, has criticized the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over comments made during a recent interview on Arise Television.

When asked why he always walked away from political parties and conflicts rather than confronting them (referencing his past departures from the ADC and the Labour Party), during the media appearance, Mr. Obi reportedly remarked, “If someone puts fire in my house, I will run and leave it.”

Reacting swiftly via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Ogra questioned Obi’s leadership capacity, arguing that true leadership requires facing adversity head-on.

“That tells you everything,” Ogra wrote. “No responsibility. No capacity to confront or fix the problem. No accountability to the people affected. No accountability for protecting what has been entrusted to you.”

He continued: “Leadership is not about running away from challenges. It is about confronting them, solving them, and carrying the consequences of your decisions.”

Elaborating on his definition of leadership, Ogra added that true statesmen do not abandon danger. “It is not about running from a burning house. It is about putting out the fire, protecting the people inside, rebuilding what is damaged, and ensuring it never happens again.”

“Anyone can walk away. Leaders stay and solve problems,” the presidential media aide concluded.
