Major Gen Wase Assumes Duty As 44th GOC 1 Div Nigerian Army

In line with the recent posting and appointments by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt Gen Olufemi Oluyede, the new General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division Nigerian Army (NA), and Sector 1 Joint Task Force Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Abubakar Sadiq Mohammed Wase has assumed command as the 44th GOC of the Division during a colourful handing and taking over ceremony between him and his predecessor, Major General Mayirenso Saraso, on 20 August, 2025, held at the Headquarters 1 Division, Kaduna.

During his remarks, the outgoing GOC, General Saraso, while handing over, expressed gratitude to God Almighty and the COAS for the privilege to serve in the Division as GOC.

He further appreciated officers and soldiers of the Division for their support during his tenure, while urging them to accord same, and even more support to his successor for the overall benefit of the NA and the entire country.

The handing and taking over ceremony, was eventful, featuring signing of handing and taking over notes between the outgoing and incoming GOCs respectively, decoration of the new GOC with 1 Division insignia and farewell address to troops by the outgoing GOC. There were also handing over of the new command flag to the incoming GOC, hoisting of the new Division’s flag at the quarter guard which signifies the begining of a new era, and group photographs among others.
