Mentoring Future Leaders Not Optional, Maj Gen Aligbe Tells Newly Decorated Senior Officer

In a ceremony marked by pride and tradition, Major General Kevin Aligbe, Commander of Training and Doctrine Command, Nigerian Army (TRADOC NA), has urged the  newly decorated senior officer to embrace the responsibility of mentoring the next generation of military leaders.

Speaking at the investiture of Colonel Godwin Okechukwu Ubani at the Headquarters 6 Division Python Officers’ Mess, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Thursday, October 9, 2025, Major General Aligbe emphasized the critical role of leadership development within the ranks. He congratulated Colonel Ubani on his promotion, describing him as a “serious and hardworking officer” whose dedication and experience make him well-suited to guide younger officers and soldiers.

“Mentorship is not optional; it is essential,” Major General Aligbe stated. “We must ensure a smooth transition of leadership and uphold the values that define the Nigerian Army.” He expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, for approving the promotion and commended Colonel Ubani’s family for their support in his career.

The Commander also advised the newly promoted officer to learn from past challenges and focus on building a legacy of excellence.

In his vote of thanks, Colonel Ubani expressed deep gratitude to the Commander, TRADOC NA, for the honor of being decorated and thanked all attendees for their presence. He offered prayers for safe travels and reaffirmed his commitment to serving with integrity and purpose.

The event, attended by senior officers, family members, and well-wishers, underscored the significance of mentorship and leadership continuity in the Nigerian Army.
