Minister Oyetola Rethinks Political Ambition
Those with grounded information have disclosed the honourable minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola has just had a rethink about his political decision.
He has dropped his ambition to return as the governor of Osun State, sources who should know confided in highstreet.ng.
“As I speak with you he has seen reasons with other leaders who believe the only way to have a chance in coming gubernatorial election in the State is to give APC ticket to the senatorial district where the incumbent comes from”, a source who is familiar with the development disclosed.
“Their position was possibly based on the fact that Osun Central, which produced former governors Busi Akande, Olagunsoye Oyinlola and Gboyega Oyetola and Rauf Aregbesola using Osun East’s slot have cumulatively spent 23 years…” the source further pointed out.
Osun West Senatorial district produces the current executive Governor of the South-West State who is in the second year of his first term.
Oyetola, a senior member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), who served as Chief of Staff in the administration of former Governor Rauf Aregbesola, ruled Osun State for a single term of four years between 2018 and 2022.
Earlier report by Highstreet.ng indicated that the prominent minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria had once again shown interest in governing the state with Ademola Adeleke as the incumbent.
The next governorship election in Osun State will be held in 2026.
Single-term Ex-Governor Oyetola lost his 2022 re-election bid to Senator Ademola Adeleke, the candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
His electoral loss to incumbent Governor Adeleke was largely thanks to the APC internal crisis that saw him engaging his predecessor, Aregbesola, in a fierce battle.
But things appeared to have changed as feelers at the disposal of highstreet.ng suggested there are changes in the arrangement as far as the political ambition of the 70-year-old appointee of President Tinubu is concerned.
Available information revealed Mr Oyetola rethinks his political move following the intervention of a number of respected APC leaders in and out of government who prevailed on him and let him see reasons why he should rather focus on his assignment as an integral member of the present government at the federal level.
