Niger Govt Attracts $150m Loan From IsDB For Solar Project Worth $160m

The Niger government has attracted 150 million United States Dollars (USD) from the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) for solar project in the state.

The Chairman, New Niger Development Project (NNDP), Alhaji Mustapha Abubakar Bida, disclosed this at the 2nd edition of the quarterly media briefing organised by the ministry of information and orientation.

He said the project will cost 160 million USD and that the state government will provide 10 million USD as a counterpart fund.

Alhaji Abubakar Bida also revealed that the loan was secured following the state government’s effective management of the Minna-Bida road project.

He said the project, which will be situated in Maikunkele, will have value addition to the people and that there will be social intervention components that will impact the people positively.

According to him, “This project will create direct and indirect jobs and will bring many other benefits.”

Alhaji Abubakar Bida said the NNDP was established under executive order 30, 2023, majorly to support project implementation by various MDAs saddled with project execution and also to fill any existing gap that would hamper the success of projects.

He said the NNDP also ensures the issue of compensation is effectively and efficiently handled through the collaboration of relevant stakeholders for a seamless project execution.

Alhaji Abubakar Bida further revealed that the staff of NNDP were carefully selected across various MDAs to provide effective service that would ensure value for money in project execution.
